Intro and Overture

Hello and welcome to the first post on my first blog for my first feature film - The First. I mean. The Romantic.

That was stupid.

Okay! My name is Michael P. Heneghan, the grand pooh-bah of what will be a 90 minute animated flick set to launch in mid 2007. Next week I'll publish a synopsis of the story but for now you can check out excerpts from the first act of the feature here. This film came to fruition as my senior thesis for The University of The Arts. Instead of creating a self contained animated short, I used this time to experiment with the style and storytelling format of the feature. The result is the first act sans a few scenes that are irrelevant to the arch of the 12 minute film.

The short ends in a cliffhanger (almost literally - har har) and sets the stage for the heroes mission. But in the words of Mr. Al Jolson.... you ain't seen nothing yet.

Production began yesterday, June 1st, but I've been working for a little while now storyboarding the script, sketching character designs, and creating the 'digital puppets' (as I've grown accustomed to calling them. I'll explain later.) The designs are killer and at least thirty-three times better than the ones showcased in the short film linked above. It's a mythological story - and this fantasy land is packed with a lot of weird dudes. I've drawn at least one million monsters so far. Count em. They're there.

The purpose of this blog is twofold. First, it will allow me to keep a running journal of all my anxieties and enthusiasms as I go through the daunting process off popping out an animated feature in a years time. Secondly, it will give all the three people that are already pumped for this ship to float (or sink) a chance to get an inside glance at how I'm actually going to bake this pie. I will post every Friday with news, updates, personal comments, thoughts, and so forth along with some sneak peaks at production art, music, and even some animation. Cool.

So yeah, that's it folks. Stay tuned. The babies have only just begun to burp.

Hugs, kisses, and homemade chocolates,
MPH
